Chris Dodd's bill to strip retroactive immunity from telecom companies has failed in the Senate today, with a vote of 31 - 67. To pass, the measure needed 51 votes. Eighteen democrats joined the Republicans to snuggle down deep in the pockets of AT & T and their colleagues, including our own spectacularly limp Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu. And of course, diaper-boy David Vitter voted with his party as well. Can't say I'm surprised, but damn, it's so disappointing. How can they possibly justify allowing corporations to spy on American citizens without probable cause, warrants, or any type of consequences? And don't give me that War on Terror bullshit. Please. Just don't even go there.

Mary has disappointed me for many years. Unfortunately, the alternatives (see 'diaper boy') are worse. We need a local Obama to take charge...
